Day 1 Carcassonne and Lastours Castles

In the morning, meet your local guide at the main gate of the medieval city of Carcassonne. Protected for now twenty years by UNESCO world heritage, let your guide lead you through the city and tell you its history.
This old roman town became one of the most important places during the Middle Ages and was crossed by wars, a crusade and was revived during the 19th century.
Follow your guide along the walls, the medieval streets and discover the way of life during the Middle Ages. A perfect tour to learn about the history of the so called Cathars and the 13th century crusade. 

Lunch:  Stop for lunch in a restaurant of the medieval city. Taste the famous “Cassoulet” a specialty of Carcassonne.

In the afternoon, follow your guide to discover the four castles of Lastours. Built up on the top of high hills these four fortresses were the place of living of the Cabardès Lords. Climb up to the four castles and let your guide tell you their history and how the lords where involved in the Crusade.

Optional : For people who have difficulties for walking, a stop can be organized near the 4 castles of Lastours for a panoramic view.
