Day 1 Minervois discoveries

In the morning, meet your guide and spend a day discovering the wonders of the Minervois. Start by the exploration of the deep Cabrespine chasm. Explore a forest of limestone and rock concretions.
Admire the stalactites, stalagmites or the incongruous forms the limestone took through the time. Then, drive to Caunes Minervois. This charming medieval village was known for its red marble quarries by the past.
This precious stone can nowadays be found in The Louvre, Versailles palace or many cathedrals in the region. Guided walking tour in the medieval village.

Lunch: Regional lunch.

In the afternoon, Visit the Caunes Minervois abbey.  This beautiful Romanesque style abbey was built during the 12th century and was restored through the times, mostly during the 18th century when the nearby river the Argent Double entered in a flood. Discover the remains of the cloister from the 12th century and some remains of the former Carolingian church.
Then drive to  a panoramic point of view over the four castles of Lastours. From there, your guide would tell you the tormented history of these castles that were assaulted during the crusade against the Cathars.
