DALÍ'S CATALONIA

When you come on travelling down on the Northern Spanish coast, and mostly the Catalonia’s one, you might be surprised, pleased and stunned by the beauty of the landscapes and the beauty of the waters. Always an inspiration source, Catalonia’s coast is still seducing the artists: photographers and painters. Of course, artists, and mainly Dalí were inspired and even passioned by this coast, but not only.

Nowadays, many people come to visit the sites painted in Dalí’s masterpieces and want also to enjoy the beauty of landscapes and charming villages. Extended over more than 310 miles (around 500 kms) on the coast, Spanish Catalonia is a succession of beautiful sandy beaches, rocks and villages lulled by a lovely turquoise blue sea and a luxurious vegetation. As Dalí declared is passion for Catalonia and its Costa Brava you may appreciate the colours, the lights and the luxurious vegetation and the jagged landscapes of the Coast.

day trip dali
A great part of the surrealistic and psychedelic work of Dalí is a true painted ode to his Homeland. Of course, we would be happy to make you discover these stunning landscapes, charming villages and beautiful landscapes. We would lad you for holidays in between friends or family, a scholar trip or even if it is for a seminary. To help you in the places to discover, here are among the 4 more stunning places.

FIGUERAS

Maybe the most famous and more visited places where Dalí lived and he loved as well: Figueres. So, enter in the place he declared to be is Paradise. The town is now pleased to make you discover the Museum dedicated to the Master and his surrealistic Art.
As an example, the Museum is a curious combination of a building decorated with giant eggs or Oscar awards little statues. A place so eccentric and extravagant as Dalí himself. This curious, but so appreciated place was built on the ancient town theatre that was burnt to ashes during the Civil War.

catalonia holiday figueres

It would be a pity not to visit this fantastic place if you are going to Figueres. It is a good occasion to discover the “Taxi Plujos”, the “Soft Self-portrait”, “Atomic Leda” and so many others. These paintings can be seen as a prolongation of Dalí’s dreams, feelings, anguishes and the unconditional love for THE only woman of his life: Gala.

CADAQUÉS

Such as Dalí did, you may enjoy also the beauty of Cadaqués village. He used to come in family to take advantage of this place in family, and so you can do. There’s nothing better than a stop or a journey in such a magnificent place, that inspired the painter. Even if Dalí did really love this part of Catalonia, his life and Art made him move to Paris. He stayed there among the surrealistic artists and met the great love of his life: Mrs. Eluard aka Gala (not a true love story if it is a complicate one).

Even if Dalí passed away a long time ago, his presence is still engraved in the village. A path walk baptised in homage to the painter, a smiling statue, and obviously a road dedicated to him too, with a reproduction of some of his paintings. Another lovely place is Port Lligat. Dalí used to have a summer residence here. If cars are not allowed to go to, do not worry, there is a way to go closer: the touristic train. Of course, you can join the house’s area by walking and enjoy much more the sumptuous landscapes around.
vacation cadaques

When you come on vacation in Cadaquès it is not for the noise or feeling rushed. If you would go there, it is mostly to enjoy the charm of the white houses, the luminosity of the village and its sensation of slow life, perfect to feel relaxed. The ideal place to spend time with your friend, family, just chilling in a warm and bright day, and maybe appreciate the calm around you to take a siesta.

PORTLLIGAT

Dalí spent 52 years of his life nearby Port Lligat. This fishermen village closer to Cadaquès was a refuge for the Master. He did live in a fisherman house he decided to convert into a masterpiece. Nowadays, the touristic train starting from Cadaquès leads you near the Casa Museu de Dalí.

Once again, Dalí offered a place full of his eccentricity and personal curiosity. There, you may be invited to a particular travel. A swan or a bear, such as the giant egg tower, or even the so, special phallic swimming pool. A particular, but so unusual and surprising change of scene!

CASTELL DE PÚBOL

Here is the location were Dalí offered the so promised castle to his spouse Gala. The famous castle is the eternal refuge of Gala. Where the Museum Theatre dedicated to Dalí used to be bright, shiny and colourful as Dalí was eccentric, Castell de Pùbol is different, and even said, the opposite for being a darker place. Nothing makes a reference to the extravagant and surrealistic spirit of Dalí. Just some works on the soft melting clock or a small giraffe are part of the master’s work.

Fun fact, even if Dalí and Gala both loved each other, the painter could only go at Castell de Púbol if he received an invitation from Gala. Would you wait her letter too? No need to If many people or couple wonder why Dalí and gala did choose this place, just take a weekend to discover Cadaquès… and understand why they stayed here. Otherwise, many corporations or start-ups enjoy a working and relaxing moment in this region and tend to make organise seminars. Enjoy the weather, the beauty of the region and landscapes and a nice moment for a team building.
