Although Carcassonne is considered as a medieval town, it was created during the Roman era and some towers and walls dating back to that time are still remaining and  interesting to be seen.
But the town was especially rebuilt and fortified before and after the crusade against the Cathars (11th, 12th and 13th centuries).

This guided tour allows you to discover the cathar and town history but also the medieval military architecture : the Narbonnaise gate, a huge defensive work, the 2 lines of citywalls and the Count’s castle.
The St Nazaire Basilica is also included in the tour as it is a marvellous exemple of romanesque and gothic architecture.
