Day 5 Tuffeau quarry and Blois

In the morning, the visit of an old Tuffeau quarry takes you back to the strange and secret universe of the pearlers and stonecutters of the past; this tuffeau was used to build the most beautiful castles of the Loire Valley. Today it has been partly transformed into a mushroom farm.
In the afternoon, visit of Blois. In Blois, all roads lead to the castle, and its striking façade is a unique demonstration of the evolution of architecture between the 13th and 17th centuries. Richly decorated and superbly restored in the 19th century, this royal residence has seen no less than seven kings and ten queens of France.

The riders of the Cadre Noir invite you for a guided tour of the site, which will allow you to discover the large riding hall, the saddlery and the stables. Depending on the dates, you can attend the Matinales in the large riding hall where the work of their young horses will be presented and explained.
Visit of Fontevraud Abbey. The abbey owed its power to the Plantagenets and to its close links with Eleanor of Aquitaine. Queen of France and then of England, she spent her last years there. Her recumbent statue sits in the heart of the abbey alongside those of Henry II Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart.
