The former Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide is nowadays a beautiful place restored during the early 20th century.
Visit also Narbonne the town that was the capital of a roman province. The town is still famous for preserving its roman and medieval heritage, mostly its sumptuous gothic cathedral.

Day 1 Narbonne and Fontfroide Abbey

In the morning, drive toward Fontfroide abbey. During the trip let your guide tell you the history of Narbonne region.  Visit the abbey of Fontfroide. This beautiful isolated abbey was a Cistercian one and was restored in the early 20th century.
The place still belongs to the descendants of the Fayet family. This rich family was was also famous for their friendship with great artists of the late 19th century and early 20th century.  Discover the differents rooms of the abbey, its cloister and gardens. 

Lunch :  Stop for lunch on the site of the abbey.

In the afternoon, guided walking tour through the historical center of Narbonne. Follow your guide through the streets of the city. Be told the history of Narbo Martius the roman capital and its history.  
The Roman road “Via Domitia” permitted the conquest of this land and the creation of a city, a port and a real commercial crossroads. Be impressed by the exceptional cathedral and cloister of the archbishop district, by the impressive tapestries and sculptures, mostly a sumptuous altarpiece from the 14th.  
Then, other secrets as the early Christian necropolis of the medieval city would be revealed...
