Day 1 Arles

Arrival of the group in Arles to enjoy this beautiful city and its heritage.

Your guide will lead you to the richesses of this twice millennia town which will surprise you by its impressive Romans Remains (bullring, remains of thermal baths, remnants of ancient theatre...).
Discover the cloister of St Trophime Cathedral, a jewel of Romanesque architecture.

Overnight at a 3 star hotel near Arles and dinner.

Return to Arles for the visit of the Van Gogh Foundation, wonderful place of exhibition dedicated to modern and contemporary Art.
Proposing the theme of artists inspired by Van Gogh and the light of Provence, Picasso naturally finds his place in this museum, with other painters.

Lunch.

Departure for “Carrières de lumières”. In ancient limestone quarries and a landscaped gallery, Picasso's most beautiful and emblematic paintings are projected, animated and carry the spectator in a world out of all time and space.
Short free time in the medieval village of les Baux de Provence before heading to Saint Paul de Mausole, the former monastery and psychiatric hospital in which Van Gogh was interned and hence he paints some of his most famous paintings.

Day2 Arles- Les Baux de Provence

Day 3 Aix-en-Provence

After breakfast, departure to Aix-en-Provence. Visit of the exhibition at the Granet Museum, paralleling the works of Picasso and Francis Picabia.

Lunch.

Guided tour of the city with its cours Mirabeau lined with sumptuous facades of private mansions, its fountains and the beautiful streets of its historical center.
Visit of the workshop Cézanne. It was in this old workshop that the master came to draw his inspiration, but also to retire for working in peace.

After breakfast, departure to one of the prettiest cities that has preserved its prestigious ancient past: Nîmes. Begin with the visit of the so-called Arena, roman amphitheater dating back 1st century.
Then go to the museum of the Old Nîmes and of the bullfight Culture, that hosts some drawings of Picasso, a great amateur of bullfighting games.
This museum is also an opportunity to discover the world of bullfighting and the clothes of lights of the bullfighters.

Lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the brand-new Museum of the Roman World. Exceptional exhibitions, latest technological innovations, come and embark on a journey back in time to discover Nîmes, nicknamed “the French Rome", currently being registered at UNESCO. Then route to Montpellier.

Day4 Nîmes

Day 5 Collioure-Céret

After breakfast drive towards the Pyrenees. Let yourself being surprised and amazed by the charm and the light of the little port of Collioure. This superb Catalan village attracted many painters, especially fauvists such as Matisse and Derain.
Discover the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, which houses a sumptuous and imposing Catalan baroque altarpiece.

Lunch.

Departure to Céret, the city of the Cherry! It is in the context of this charming village that Picasso, Braque and Juans Gris (among others) came to draw their inspiration for their Cubist paintings.
In this village a museum of modern art is installed. In the years 1950, Picasso made a gift of ceramic dishes that he had created, showing once again his attraction for bullfighting.

After breakfast, visit the Fabre museum. The Museum of Art of Montpellier, on the occasion of the project Picasso and the Mediterranean, receives some works of the painter.
Visit of the temporary exhibition to be able to appreciate the beauty of the paintings of the master.

Lunch in the city.

In the afternoon, guided visit of the historic centre of Montpellier. Born in the Middle Ages, the shield, as the city is called, holds many treasures. By walking through its narrow streets, enjoy its charms, but also its lively atmosphere.
The facades and courtyards of private mansions, the old way to Santiago de Compostella, but also its imposing cathedral are only part of the secrets that Montpellier will be delighted to reveal to you.

Check out after breakfast.

Or Optional Day : A day tour can be organised in Marseille to visit the exhibitions that the MUCEM and the Museum of la Charité devote to Picasso.
