Day 1 Cathars and Musicians

In the morning, stop in Mirepoix. This Middle ages village was know for its fairs and still preserve the St Maurice Cathedral. Follow your guide and discover the village main square surrounded by timberframed houses, sculpted corbels and galleries where the former merchants used to exhibit their products.
Then drive to the Castle of Montsegur. This fortress was built up on the top of a hill and was the last place of the Cathars’ resistance. Climb up to the top (30 minutes to climp up, 30 mins to go down) and admire the landscape from the top.
Discover how the Crusade took this place and the tragedy that followed.

Lunch :  Stop for lunch in a local restaurant.  

In the afternoon, guided walking tour of Puivert Castle. This place is famous for being a restored castle which work was able to give back its splendour. Discover the room where copies of medieval music instruments are exhibited.
Also admire the sculptures of troubadours, the poets of Languedoc who developed and put in music the charming Occitan Language.
