Day 1 Carcassonne
Although Carcassonne is considered as a medieval town, it was created during the Roman era and some towers and walls dating back to that time are remaining and interesting to be seen.
But the town was especially rebuilt and fortified before and after the crusade against the Cathars (11th, 12th and 13th centuries).
Discover the Cathar and town history with a local guide and let your eyes wide open to see the beautiful medieval military architecture: the Narbonnaise gate, a huge defensive work, the 2 lines of city walls and the Count’s castle.
The St Nazaire Basilica is also included in the tour as it is a marvellous example of Romanesque and Gothic architecture.
