Day 1 The Locomotive in the Cevennes

In the morning, meet your local guide and visit the Anduze Bamboo Garden. This place is nowaday a famous botanical garden mostly dedicated to the culture of bamboos and other exotic vegetal plants.
Starting in 1856, this park is the work of sir Eugène Mazel who dedicated a great part of his life to create, make grow up and maintain this place.  Having a stroll in this garden is like walking in a dream full of colours, light and pleasurable smells.
Anduze is a town also hiding other secrets as the presence of a locomotive locally known as the “Cevennes steam train”… A trip aboard the train would lead you to the charming village of Saint jean du Gard. 

Lunch:  Regional lunch.

In the afternoon, you have got the choice in between two options. First you an visit the Cevennes Valley in Saint Jean du Gard. This museum is dedicated to the traditions and life in the Cevennes mountains. There you would discover the daily life in this not so easy area.

Learn about the traditions, agriculture, local celebrations and obvously, the conditions of life of the protestants. The Cevennes used to be a refuge place for the reformists. They coud hide in here and try to live in between 1685 and 1787 before the “Edict of Tolerance” was proclamed.

In second option you can choose to visit the Desert Museum in Mialet, also dedicated to the history of the Protestants in the Cevennes mountains.
